This photovoltaic system was part of an addition to an existing home.  The homeowner wanted the solar panels to look like they were "built-in" the roof structure.  The panels were mounted on fiberglass shingles to be more flush with the surrounding pitched clay tile roof and to allow the panels to blend in with the rest of the roof.
