This family chose to install photovoltaic panels out of a concern for the environment.  They enjoy using their data monitoring system to track the amount of electricity their PV system produces and the amount of energy their household is using. In addition to PV panels, the Day family’s home also has a passive solar design, water catchment cisterns, earth works and a solar water heater.
