We are seeking an operational and customer-focused Director of Construction, experienced with managing construction and/or solar projects. You don’t need to be an expert with how our solar projects are designed or installed, but you must have the desire to learn and understand it.

The ultimate objective of this role is to evaluate, organize, align and train our Construction teams to grow beyond our current 5 MW installation capacity while maintaining our unwavering commitment to our values.

The Director of Construction is a member of the Leadership Team and is responsible for the oversight and management of the out-the-door to complete project cycle for all customers. The Director will directly manage our core Construction teams: Commercial and Residential Installation Crews. These teams are made up of long-tenured staff with role-based expertise, as well as new staff, just getting familiar with their role and TFS. The Director will also be a bridge between the Construction team and the Sales and Operation teams, working with those team Directors and ensuring the handoffs are seamless throughout the customer’s project. The partnership between these departments ensures that customer expectations are not only met, but exceeded on a regular basis. Delighted customers are what we seek. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management for Commercial and Residential Crews

    • Implement and maintain safety procedures, compliance and trainings as the highest priority

    • Balance resources between commercial and residential as needed

    • Implement and organize process improvement & efficiency measures to ensure resources are use most effectively across teams/areas

    • Develop, document, advocate for and institute best practices/standards, processes, and procedures as necessary and appropriate across all relevant teams

    • Review and approve time off requests for employees in Comm & Res installation crews

    • Organize and participate in regular performance reviews with assistance and support from HR; provide guidance and professional development for employees

    • Act as co-lead on any tough discussions, corrective feedback, and plans of action

  • Departments & Areas of Responsibility:

    • Customer Communication

      • Provide Comms team with any and all needed info to keep customers informed and thrilled

    • Scheduling

      • Balance resources along with scheduling coordinator

      • Forecast installation schedule for all signed contracts 

    • New Construction/Special Project Management 

      • Works closely with Sales and Design to ensure smooth installation of these projects special projects

    • Installation 

      • Oversee training of new field staff 

      • On-going professional development for field staff 

      • Responsible for QC Program including regular checks and staff presentations 

      • Maintain, build, and improve SOPs

      • Responsible for Field Safety Program including field checks, training program, and ongoing improvements


Requirements:

  • Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

  • Track record of directing, measuring, and reporting progress towards project goals

  • Experience managing teams to meet deadlines on time and on mission.

  • Highly organized & have ability to multi-task and set priorities

  • Strong competence with Computer including Excel, Word, e mail and web based applications

  • Must be a problem solver, self-motivated and collaborative

  • Able to resolve staffing issues, customer issues, or 3rd party issues that may arise

  • Willingness to be coachable

  • Efficiency – able to produce significant output with minimal waste

  • Flexibility – adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions.

  • Proactivity – acts without being told what to do. Brings new ideas to the process and procedures

  • High Standards – expects personal performance to be nothing short of the best

  • Current AZ driver license with good driving record

  • Knowledge of solar a plus, but not required
