Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley has gone solar! The church's new 47kW system, comprised of 144 SunPower 327w solar modules, will annually generate 90,000 kWh of clean electricity, providing the Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley with 99% or more of their yearly electrical needs.

Evangelical Free Church knew from the start of drafting their expansion plans that they wanted to incorporate a solar system into the new expansion if possible. Their new solar shade structure provides staff and visitors with shade from the sun for their parked cars while offsetting the annual equivalencies of 90,400 lbs of coal being burned, 201,400 lbs of CO2 being released into the air, and 45,200 gallons of water from being consumed for the creation of fossil fuel electricity.

Missions board member Dana Beckhorn says: "About two years ago Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley identified that our growth outstripped our physical facility. We hold two serveries during the summer and three when our winter visitors join us. Several options were looked at, and the final decision was to add a new 3000 sq. ft. office area to our current facility, expand the parking lot, and reduce our utility bill by adding solar.

The old office space will soon be combined with the sanctuary area, adding an additional 80 seats to the church. The new office area accommodates all of our pastors and support personnel in one building. The expanded parking lot provides an additional 80 parking spaces. The solar system was added as a long term investment, hedging against increasing electricity costs. It is designed to provide for most of our electricity needs including the new office area. We look forward to significantly reducing our electricity costs and being a green facility."
