Going Solar

Sun City Oro Valley's new solar energy system provides over half of the energy needed by their common-area complexes.

Totaling 426 kW, Sun City's solar energy system is made up of eight separate systems, including solar parking canopies that provide shading for resident and visitor vehicles, rooftop modules, and the poolside canopy pictured here!

Ed Zwerling, SCOV Properties Committee chair, takes pride in the committee’s sensitivity to aesthetics and maintaining the beautiful mountain views throughout SCOV. “We kept the Architectural Review Committee involved to make sure the placement of panels didn’t interfere with our views. We wanted to protect views like those from the Welcome Center entrance down to the new Pro Shop.”

Zwerling says that the most positive feedback from residents has been about reducing our carbon footprint and providing shaded parking spaces. “It’s really been a very positive reception.”
